Kittens, Concerts and a dog with 3 legs
Ok. so my weekend was quite eventfull. Skavenger has written something about the kittens. You can read it on her blog. They were really cute. They opened their eyes for the first time that day. I picked one up and Muis, the mother allowed that. She kinda knows who good people are and not. Or maybe she doesn't know how to act and is she wondering where the kittens came from.
Anyway they were in good health and stuff and so tiny!
The evening before I went to a concert by Echo's hill. Altough I had already seen them perform together with Skavenger and seen them rehearse a couple of times I hadn't seen them perform as just Echo's hill before. Skavenger was asked to sing two songs with them. Otherwise they hadn't have enough material to fill the whole 1.5 hours. The concert was good. There were some awesome songs, but it seemed a bit messy and improvised which it actually also was. They played a completely brand new song Marc had written that morning. It went really well which proves what I said before. Music is in their blood.
Skavenger didn't have much time to prepare as she heard the day before she had to perform some songs with them. But she was confident she could do it. And then she was on stage and had a sort of black out. She couldn't remember the first sentence of a song of which she wasn't worried about forgetting. That didn't really matter. Looked funny actually.
The last song I was really looking forward to. Jamaican disco. As I said that rocks. It is normally about 7 minutes. So I decided to record the whole thing on my camera. However they decided to prolong the song a bit so they were able to fill the whole set. This didn't really work for the song. All the good things that should keep on stunning you were spread out over a 12 minutes now. And then also it had already been a long performance which ment Status wasn't able to drum the way he did before (I think). So that was kinda disappointing.
I don't know If this is just my personal opinion which had to do with myself cause I haven't heared any negative comment on the show from other people. Don't get me wrong. Not saying it was bad, just that it could have been better. I hope they'll keep on practicing and blow me away next time (of which I am pretty confident they will).
I said concerts. Plural. Meaning there was another. The Skarabeez had to perform the day after in Tegelen. They could have become trailer trash as the stage was a trailer. However they were really good. Way better than the other people I've seen perform there. Luckily there was some more audience then there was at the other concerts which was good for the ambiance.
I hadn't slept well the 2 nights before. I woke up sneezing since I suddenly seem over sensitive to pollen. I took some medicine for that yesterday and it seems to be working luckily. The concert ended at 11:15 and it was after 1 am before we were sleeping. So this morning and at work I have been feeling sleepy. Would have gone to bed already, however I needed to write this first before it got old.
About the 3-legged dog. Well I saw a dog this morning which was missing the left hind leg.
That's it. I'm off to bed. Yaaawn.

About the Echo's Hill part. I feel forced to explain myself here :P
Truth is, we hadn't had a good Echo's Hill rehearsal for about 2 months. So because of that, it was all kinda different. We had to really rely on our own skills, to make the gig work, instead of really having the "together as a band" thingy. It was too bad, but considering all of that, I think it still went very good.
Another fact is that really, a minimum of 75% of the gig was improvised. Some parts really came from scratch, I kid you not. The whole Mr Miyagi song, just came completely from ourselves in the moment.
And about Jamaican Disco, my drumsolo was really better than the one I did in Venray. I just did some other stuff, which kind of had more jazz influences in there, instead of metal. Also it was stretched a bit more again, and Marc and Kay decided to swap instruments, which wasn't planned either.
All in all, this was a very typical Echo's Hill show. Take a little less improvisation and a bit more of playing together, you would really have a perfect match.
Ah! Well ok. I like metal more then jazz. So that is why I liked the Jamican disco the week before better then. I also liked the swapping instruments part. Next time you take the bass and put Kay behind the drums.
Liked the 2-man bass too btw ;)
75% improvised!? Looked like 25% at max to me.
I thought the gig rocked, but for people who didn't know it was improvised, it might have come across as being a bit messy... I think that's the point Marino is trying to make here. Otherwise I'll just shut up :P
But it was great, and I liked the funny bits, like instrument-swapping :D
No really, it was definitely not 25% improvised. Just my drumparts alone are always completely improvised, with the exception of a few things, that are mandatory for the song to be the song it is..
In my opinion that actually adds to the performance, if you have a lot of improv, you're actually working as a team, because you're going to be paying attention to each other. Aside from that I think it shows some real skill, to improvise 75% of your performance, and make it sound good.
And then there is the whole "fun on stage" thing, which defintely influences your audience in a very positive way.
That's true. I am impressed. However Some things could have gone better.
Would you drop it already!!! We thouroughly discussed the whole "lyrics-thing"
:P
Lol. Ok dropped then.
How big of a crowd was it?
There were about 50 people I think. Dont really know. Stood in front of the crowd so didn't look much behind me.
