The savage beast has a name

You have probably read on Skavenger's blog about us getting a cat. We finally decided on a name. We're going to call him Pica. Pica is from Pica Pica, which is the latin name for magpie. We both really like magpies and it has some other special meaning for us which is hard to put into words.

Anyway we tought of this name a long time ago tough it seemed a bit feminine, ending on an 'a'.

We went to visit the little rascals on sunday and we heard that Pica had been sick, together with one of his brothers. It started on thursday. He was already recovering and moving around again on sunday. The woman taking care of them had taken them to the vet as soon as possible and that probably was their salvation. They had a virus, of which no-one really knows what it was exactly. But the people from Katimo told Skavenger that it struck a lot of kittens. One out of five kittens only made it. Muis' kittens were in good physical condition resulting in only 2 out of 4 getting sick. Pretty severe tough! Pica had a fever of 41.1 degrees Celsius (106 degrees Fahrenheit). He was the biggest (fattest) out of the 4, but that was because he has a different father with a different bonestructure. (Just like me an Skavenger he is not fat, he is just big-boned!) Anyway he weighed only half of what the red one weighed. You could feel his bones.
Tonight we go to them again and see how they are.

Btw, Pica is the cutest out of the whole nest. If we hadn't said we would like to have him he would have been promised to at least 3 other people. He is also the most quiet one out of the nest. I can see him becoming a big fat cat just lying on the couch every day :D

And also no more catching of Toontje or Pino (the two birds Skavenger has). We bought a new big cage for them which they love! Toontje is soo much fun. Looking at how deep the cage is. He doesn't really understand. They are so stupid! Haha!

Moving them proved not difficult tough that must have been a real shock for them... The dorothy effect. Wouldn't you be shocked if your whole house was suddenly lifted of the ground while you were in the basement?

Will try to take some pictures of the kittnes today and post them here as an update.

Yeah, too bad nobody was home... or nobody was opening the door... And Muis was outside, meowing to be let in. I didn't like it, because if there really was no-one to open the door, she couldn't reach her kittens for quite some time, while they need to be fed, especcialy now when two of them lost so much weight. I'll just hope there was someone home. The light were on, so.

the house wasn't rocking though...

Oh wait, it's not a mobile home :P
Pretty confusing, because I'm positive they're trailer folk, the good kind though (I think)

Maybe we should call the cat Tinker instead ;-)
